Since a net name can only exist in one netclass, I failed to mention that you will also have to CUT/DELETE the names you add to their own new netclass, out of the class kicad_default also. So in the previous example, the following net names would have to be removed from the kicad_default netclass:
GND V3.3 V3.3D V3.3A V1.8 V1.8A COMMON V5.0 EGND VCCPOE VCC_FT
N-000477 N-000479
Since they are now part of the "power" netclass.
