I'm using 20080825c, same as you. Fortunately the crashing wasn't an insurmountable problem for me, but I'm pleased to hear it sounds like it's been fixed. One of the things that impressed me about kicad when I first used it was its stability. I too think the developers have done a brilliant job, though personally I wouldn't limit that to the last few months :).
