[kicad-users] Linux version updates

I am new to the kicad after pleasantly discovering it in my system today. I am 
a user of Eagle PCB, which works in Linux, as well as windows and MAC.
My version of kicad in Kubuntu is 1977 vintage, and I noticed that the latest 
release for linux on Sourceforge is 2008 while windows gets mar2009.
Will there still be a new(er) release for linux, or is the windows crowd 
crowding it out?
