The association is simply the pin letter or number.
If you number the pins in the eeschema lib part, say for a connector,
then you use the SAME numbers on the module pins

For something like an LED (or other diode) you can use A and K for anode
and cathode in the module you use A and K rather than numbers. Likewise
transistors can use e b c and so on. 


The best way to see this is simply to pull up an existing Kicad lib and
module and see how they are arranged.
