How are you installing???

Kicad is provided as a binary package from
ftp://iut-tice.ujf-grenoble.fr/cao/

And as such there is not really any compilation involved. Just follow the
install instructions. Basically you just put kicad in the correct
directory and then run a chmod on it to set the permissions and that's
about all that is needed. The packages are 32bit so there may be an issue
if you are trying to run them of a 64bit OS, perhaps some others will be
able to confirm that for you.

If you are trying to compile the source directly then sorry I can't help
as I've never needed to do that.

I use the centos version on SUSE without problems.
