[kicad-users] Component creation

I am brand new to this program and need to learn how to create a new component. 
 I used the help option, but became somewhat lost as I tried to walk through 
it.  Is there a published step-by-step how to on component creation?  I will 
then need to create footprint.  If that subject not included, is there 
something for that?
