Good suggestions, but I am wandering what are you running because I also use Kicad on both and never used more than 0.5 GB of memory (768 MB installed) on single-core CPU and it is running fine, though not the latest SVN version. I would also recommend checking for viruses, because anytime I had a Windows machine slow down it was a zambie sending a lot of garbage to the internet. Unplug Ethernet and see. M.
