When I switched on today the first thing I did was upgrade and the problem seems to have gone, so even if I didn't try out your suggestions I'm still grateful. It was a relief there was no major bug as I work as a technician in a local college and have been pushing for them to adopt Kicad as standard. regards, Dudley Bevan.
