        Hmm, looks like you've given this a little more thought than I have. 
Having to harvest plants for water sounds like a good thing to
incorporate.  And large islands could have streams by the way you
described.  Thanks!  For water they could also collect rain during storms
and such; the salt doesn't evaporate with the water, does it (I can't
remember???? :-(.
