Hi Yariel,
I am not sure what version of KIM you are using. In our system
documentation there is a chapter about extending KIM.
In general: it is not needed to extend the knowledge base. It's not very
much needed to use it either (i mean the instances in it), especially if
you do extraction for a different domain, and/or a different language.
I also don't know if you are familiar with GATE, because the IE plugins
we support are compliant with GATE IE Pipelines.
Regarding the ontology - the best and painless way to do it is to use
yours but provide a thin alignment layer between your ontology and
PROTON. This is needed because KIM has certain needs which are covered
by PROTON's modules. On the other hand PROTON is just a basic
upper-level ontology so it should easily accommodate any such extension.
