Subject: Re: [KIM-discussion] problem in starting KIM

Hi Mehnaz,

Take a look at file "<KIM_HOME>\bin\config_kim.bat" and find the following line:

set KIM_MAX_JAVA_HEAP=800m

The size of the heap that the Java engine tries to reserve for kim is set to
800 MB. Probbably the machine you are trying to run it on - does not allow such
memory to be allocated.

You can try:

1) To reduce the requested heap memory - but then you risk to receive "out of
memory" errors when KIM starts to proceed documents

2) Try to enlarge the virtual memory of the machine to match the memory needs.
Check the hardware requirements in the documentation for more details:

http://www.ontotext.com/kim/doc/sys-doc/kim-platform-administration/kim-platform-installation.html

Log files are not found because - KIM didn't start at all.

About extending the ontology - basic information can be found also in the
documentation:

http://www.ontotext.com/kim/doc/sys-doc/kim-platform-administration/extending-kim-platform.html

HTH

All the best

DanKo

  Hi Danko

I am using my hotmail account becuase my university server block the zip
files. Here is the content of command console

Error occurred during initialization of VM

Could not reserve enough space for object heap

Could not create the Java virtual machine

I cannot find <KIM-HOME>\logs\All.txt. There is a <KIM_HOME>log folder and it
contains \sesame\repositories folders which are empty. I am attaching
<KIM-HOME>\KIM_Platform_InstallLog.Log file and zip of bin and config folders.

Further I want to discuss one more thing that I want to use KIM for Ontology
Based Named Entity Recognition. I want to match terms form a webpage (ie my
language resource is an html or pdf document) for the terms present in my
ontology. I managed to install the KIM platform on another machine( to work in
KIM until my installation problem is sort out) and now exploring its GATE
component. What I want to do now is to match the terms in the document from a
custom built ontology. At this point I am asking you, is there any tutorial to
use such an ontology for named entity recognition in KIM/GATE or any link or
guide you feel helpful to accomplish my task.

I will thankful if you provide me guidance.

  Thanks and Regards

  Mehnaz

    Hi Mehnaz,

To more quickly locate the source of the proble - can you start the batch
file in a command console. This way the output remains visible. Then copy the
content of the console and send it to us.

Additionally - attach the log file <KIM_HOME>\logs\All.txt after the error
happens.

Also - if not a problem for you - it can be helpful if you zip and send to
us the '<KIM_HOME>\bin' and '<KIM_HOME>\config' folders. This will help us
check your current configuration.

    Greetings,

    DanKo
