*SUMMARY OF POSITION: *

The *Senior UNIX Administrator* is responsible for all day-to-day support
and maintenance of the UNIX environment within the Bank. Senior Unix
responsibilities extend to both the Bank’s home office facility in downtown
Boston as well as the Bank’s dedicated disaster recovery facility located in
Westborough Massachusetts. Travel between these two facilities is frequently
required as well as ability to participate in a 7 x 24 support schedule is
also required.

The Senior UNIX Administrator is responsible for all aspects of UNIX
administration including, but not limited to monitoring, troubleshooting and
repairing software issues at the O/S level on servers running Solaris and
AIX.

*SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: *

   - He/she is responsible for equipment recommendation, purchase,
   installation, maintenance, security, performance, and problem resolution for
   the entire UNIX environment.
   - He/she is responsible for the installation and support of all
   third-party tools which reside on the O/S.
   - He/she provides performance reporting and SAN management
   responsibilities responding appropriately to automated critical alerts via
   e-mail or cell phone.
   - Configure and install new servers, devices and peripherals.
   - Monitors and corrects hardware issues involving, disk, memory, and CPU.

   - Install and configure all Unix O/S related patches and system upgrades
   as prescribed by bank policy.
   - Adhere to a strict Change Management policy to ensure timely
   notification, testing and approval for ALL system related changes that
   impact the environment.
   - Handle Tier 2 calls escalated from the help desk.
   - Document, Draft and Maintain UNIX server policies including but not
   limited to security, patching, standard operating procedures, server
   checklists, etc. regarding the UNIX environment.
   - Suggest, recommend, and draft necessary additional policies where gaps
   might exist.
   - Report monthly the status of ongoing projects, tasks, and
   responsibilities.
   - He/she ensures the implementation of legal banners for all systems,
   disables unnecessary network systems and services, maintains and reports on
   system logs and analyzes and generates reports from system log files.
   - The incumbent is responsible for working with users in determining who
   are considered authorized users for each network, ensures license
   compliance, and applies the most current patches for systems and software.
   - Of paramount importance is the strict adherence to policies and
   procedures and, where necessary or requested, drafting and promoting new
   policies and procedures.
   - This position is also responsible for the management and maintenance of
   the Bank’s network located at a dedicated disaster recovery site in
   Westborough, MA.
   - Support and maintain network hardware and infrastructure to partners
   and other third parties such as Reuters, Open Bloomberg, and other links to
   business partners
   - Solicit competitive proposals and draft RFP’s for the procurement for
   UNIX equipment
   - Ensure that detailed inventories and maintenance agreements are
   available and in place for all UNIX devices and equipment
   - Develop and maintain technical documentation for system and user
   support staff regarding all system issues.
   - Provide metrics for UNIX environment reporting on stability of
   environment and SAN utilization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

*Knowledge/Skills*

   - Experience with Solaris 8, 9, 10 and AIX 5.2 is required
   - Shell scripting knowledge is required
   - Hands-on experience with Veritas Volume Manager, Cluster Server and
   Volume Replicator is required.
   - Experience with Open Source tools (Apache, Tomcat, OpenSSH, OpenSSL,
   BIND and Samba is required.
   - Network/ IT related certification(s) preferred.
   - Practical systems and network troubleshooting skills experience in LAN
   and WAN.
   - Network Protocol knowledge of TCP/IP.
   - Excellent written and verbal communication skills

*Education*

   - Bachelors Degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
   required

*Experience*

   - Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a multi-server environment
   with proven AIX and Solaris system administration responsibilities.
   - Experience in a financial services, transaction-oriented environment
   helpful.
