you are welcome lucky! and thanks for letting me know, one of those cd's was
posted here too (a long time ago). i've got a lot more beautiful
traditional music coming up, quiet a few nice jugala tapes too, got very lucky
a few weeks ago, it's almost impossible to find that stuff
nowadays!

promising news - gumbira's jugala sound is possibly my favorite "modern"
indonesian music, and it's wonderful to dance, too, especially the
faster tracks with incredibly complex rhythms.

i have ripped
tapes myself and know how much work it is - and i have to say you really
have improved with the sound quality!! the earlier 128 rips often sound
very bad, whereas since you use 320kb/s the sound is also much cleaner -
i guess you do some editing and noise reduction.

sampai jumpai lagi :)

thanks! no i don't do any editing or noise reduction, i record the tapes that
are sounding good, the ones that are bad, i bring them to friends
of mine who have a second hand cassette shop and they clean them for
me:) believe it or not but they put the dirtiest cassettes in water for a few
days! had no dier that that was possible but the ones they cleaned
up for me sound fresh:)

well, if you think about it, it's pretty obvious - to clean something,
use water! we do it with cars, windows, bodies, why not with
cassettes... ;)

it stroke me several times during my travels in
indonesia, how creative they are with repairing stuff, or if they really
broke, how they could re-use them in a totally new way - indonesians
are recycling-masters.

thanks for madrotting. :)
