Here are the details of my test:
Machine: Whitebook (Compal S62FP)
Intel Centrino Duo T2300 1.66GHz
512 MB DDR
80 GB HDD OS: SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10
Aux App: CrossOver Linux Standard 5.0.3
Win App: Microsoft Office 2003
Result:
Microsoft Office 2003 runs well on CrossOver Linux. All Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Publisher) run as if they are native applications on top of SLED. The Microsoft Application shortcuts are also integrated with SLED's Application Browser collection allowing easy access. Compared to a native WINE or CrossOver Office, CrossOver Linux offers a smoother operation in installing, using, managing and uninstalling Windows-based applications on Linux. I haven't tested RD Corp's ERP client yet because we did not have a copy of their client.
Installing CrossOver Linux requires a quick trip to the terminal and typing './install-crossover-standard-prerelease-6.0.0beta2.sh ' . After invoking the command, I was presented with a GUI installation wizard, and in just a few clicks, the installation is done. You will also be asked to configure or create a 'bottle' (container/profile) for your installation.
I'm still testing the framework further using other applications and games. If you want to take it for a spin, you can get the beta installer at http://www.codeweavers.com/products .
Yes it is a commercial product. You can also feel free to try and get the CVS. But I still say, since I'm using it for production, I need the quickest solution possible.
