1. improve virtualization support of Windows on Linux (Xen) and vice versa.
2. better support of moving applications between .NET and MONO. Applications that were programmed on Linux (MONO) will (in the future) run seamlessly on .NET Windows and vice versa.
3. better support coverage for WIndows users that are looking for a Linux solution.
4. Novell want to interact with Microsoft regarding device driver support.
5. Licensing issues.
What you see on a lot of reactions from various people are can be considered "hearsay", "personal opinions", and "assumptions". We really cant be assuming things that we dont know yet. So far MS and Novell have yet to release all the details regarding their cooperation agreement. Until those documents will be made public, all we can do is just sit and wait.
