That "island" is the Sealand offshore rig. Have you noticed shipping cargo
crates at the pier that says "MAERSK-SEALAND" ?

The Sealand rig was purchased by a rich couple in the 1960's and was filed
for declaration as a "sovereign country" since that rig was officially in
international waters. But then again, a country is not just about where it
is located. :)

This is just another "ploy" by pirates to be outside any jurisdiction/and
rule of law. Call it sovereign anarchy if you like. :)
