*ISLAM IS A JUST RELIGION,
NOT AN APARTHEID RELIGION*
(Delivered at the Lysterfield Mosque
Friday 27th October 2006)

Bros.&Sisters in Islam:
There is a saying that your mouth is your tiger that will tear you to pieces.
Muslims should be very careful about what they say.
Especially nowadays when Islam, not just Muslims, is under such intense
scrutiny. Although in Islam there is no clerical hierarchy, yet whatever is
said by someone perceived or regarded as a Muslim of some authority, then that
utterance will be deemed and regarded as the official Islamic version of
whatever that has been said.
As if every Islamic Imam and or Khatib or scholar is the equivalent of the
Catholic Pope - who, it is believed by Catholics, when he speaks ex Cathedra,
is in effect only conveying God's words. That is God speaking through him.
Bros.&Sisters in Islam:
I am sure many, even most, or perhaps all of us must have been aware of the
uproar caused by what the Imam of the Lakemba mosque in Sydney, As-Sheikh
Tajuddin Al Hilaly, said, in one of his sermons recently.
For the benefit of those of us here who may not have read or heard what Sheikh
Al Hilaly said, let me quote you from the translation (from Arabic) of his
speech to the congregation in Sydney. I took this translation from the
Australian Newspaper of today, Friday 27th of October 2006.
Sheikh Hilaly was reported as having said :
"But when it comes to adultery, it's 90 per cent the women's responsibility.
Why? Because a woman possesses the weapon of seduction. It is she who takes off
her clothes, shortens them, flirts, puts on make-up and powder and takes to the
streets, God protect us, dallying. It's she who shortens, raises and lowers.
Then it's a look, then a smile, then a conversation, a greeting, then a
conversation, then a date, then a meeting, then a crime, then jail. (laughs).
"But when it comes to this disaster, who started it? In his literature, scholar
al-Rafihi says: 'If I came across a rape crime - kidnap and violation of honour
- I would discipline the man and order that the woman be arrested and jailed
for life.' Why would you do this, Rafihi? He says because if she had not left
the meat uncovered, the cat wouldn't have snatched it."

"If you take a kilo of meat, and you don't put it in the fridge or in the pot
or in the kitchen but you leave it on a plate in the backyard, and then you
have a fight with the neighbour because his cats eat the meat, you're crazy.
Isn't this true?
"If you take uncovered meat and put it on the street, on the pavement, in a
garden, in a park or in the backyard, without a cover and the cats eat it, is
it the fault of the cat or the uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the
problem.
"If the meat was covered, the cats wouldn't roam around it. If the meat is
inside the fridge, they won't get it.
"If the meat was in the fridge and it (the cat) smelled it, it can bang its
head as much as it wants, but it's no use.
"If the woman is in her boudoir, in her house and if she's wearing the veil and
if she shows modesty, disasters don't happen.
"That's why he said she owns the weapon of seduction.
"Satan sees women as half his soldiers. You're my messenger to achieve my
needs. Satan tells women you're my weapon to bring down any stubborn man. There
are men that I fail with. But you're the best of my weapons.
"The woman was behind Satan playing a role when she disobeyed God and went out
all dolled up and unveiled and made of herself palatable food that rakes and
perverts would race for. She was the reason behind this sin taking place.
Unquote.
Bros.&Sister in Islam:
Sheikh Tajuddin Al Hilaly has now, so it was reported, offered his unreserved
apology, after so much criticism was leveled at him, not only by non Muslims,
but equally strongly by many Muslim men and women in Australia, including
Melbourne. But the damage is done.
Sheikh Tajuddin Al Hilaly is a graduate of Al Azhar, undeniably the most
prestigious learning institution in the world, in particular, on Islamic
studies. An encyclopedia entry says about this university:
"Al-Azhar was once considered by most Sunni Muslims to be the most prestigious
school of Islamic learning, and its scholars were seen as some of the most
reputable scholars in the Muslim world."
But although he is a graduate of Al Azhar University and often referred to as
"The Mufti" of Australian Muslims, yet he is just that, a human being, capable
of errors. And I believe Sheikh Tajuddin Al Hilaly was erroneous when he said
such unflattering things about women, including of course, perhaps as the
unintended targets, Muslim women.
Bros.&Sisters:
Approximately half of humankind is women. Would Allah swt be so unjust that He
placed women so low and shoulder all responsibility, including those which
surely must be men's too?
Let's see what the Qur'an says about responsibility. Just this ONE ayah, verse,
would be more than sufficient to negate Sheikh Tajuddin Al Hilaly's
preposterous assertions.
"Lahaa maa kasabat
Wa 'alaihaa maktasabat." (Al Baqarah - II - verse 286).
And of course this ayah, verse, also from Al Baqarah
"Wattaqoo yaoman toorja'oona fihi ilallahi'
Stumma tuwaffaa koolloo nafsin maa kasabat
Wa hom laa yoozdlamoon(a)" (Al Baqarah - II - 281)
In the meaning:
"An be conscious of the Day
On which you shall be brought back unto Allah,
Whereupon every human being shall be repaid in full
For what he has earned,
And none shall be wronged."How fair, just and poetic - and many scholars are of
the opinion that this is the last verse revealed to the Prophet Muhammad saw.
Bros.&Sisters in Islam.
Islam is very firm about "nobility in the sight of Allah" - it is taqwa, piety,
that is of the utmost importance, not gender, not wealth, not position. And a
woman is as capable if not more capable than a man to be pious. "Inna
akramakoom indallaahi ATQAAKOOM".
If you say "I commit a sinful act because a woman seduces me, then you are
passing the buck, shifting the blame on somebody else. So if when you are
fasting during Ramadhan, and you then come across some food or drink, and you
partake of that food and drink and break your fast - then what? Would you then
say to Allah in defence of your sin that it was the food or the drink's fault?
If so, what then is the difference between us, Muslims, and those who believe
in "sins being inherited". You are aware of the belief of people of earlier
revelation. They believe that "their God" Jesus was crucified to redeem
mankind's sin.
The Prophet Muhammad saw says that those who fasted during the month of Ramdhan
and performed all the ibadah of Ramadhan, then at the end of it he or she is
like a new born baby. Actually a born again Muslim. And in Islam, a new born
baby, even a child, until it reaches the age of discretion, is blameless of any
sins.
Bros. in Islam:
Almost everyday we come across another article or column ridiculing Islam.
Despite the myriad of critics and detractors, including some from Muslim
families, such as the so-called "progressive" Irshad Manji, and of course the
darling of them all, Salman Rushdie, Islam continues to flourish. Even after
what Sheikh Tajuddin Al Hilaly has said.
Actually we dont need other Muslims to join merrily the band wagon to discredit
Islam.

Salman Rushdie, just days ago said "veils (as worn by Muslim women) suck). The
use of the word suck is very vulgar, but that is the extent of Salman Rushdie's
angst, even hatred of Islam.
Here is Salman Rushdie in The Australian newspaper, spruiking for his new book
"Shalimar The Clown":
"Beware the dangerous obsolescence of Islam, the mad, bad old men stuck in the
17th century, trying to make the modern world back with them, instead of moving
forward." And Sheikh Al Hilaly might provide fuel for this kind of vilification.
It seems these detractors of Islam will employ just about anything, including,
to borrow a boxing term, hitting under the belt, to rubbish Islam.
But of course all in vain.
Muslims all over the world might feel pessimistic, despondent, because of their
own perception of weakness and helplessness - and yet their religion, without
any conscious effort and deliberate strategy from its adherents, from Muslims
themselves, is making ever wide spread inroads into "Christianity's ancient
stronghold".
It is as if Islam is "bearding the lion" like Daniel.
Bros.&Sisters in Islam.
We all have heard what Pope Benedict XVI said about our prophet Muhammad. Of
course he later claimed that he was merely quoting from some vague medieval
emperor who charged that the Prophet Muhammad only brought carnage to the world
by instructing his followers to commit violence, forcing unbelievers to convert.
Why quote an obscure, almost unknown emperor? Why not quote, for example, John
Drapper, who in his treatise "The Conflict between Religion (Christianity) and
Science", says among other things:
"The Nestorians found no difficulty in affiliating with their Saracen (Muslim)
conquerors, by whom they were treated not only with the highest respect, but
entrusted with some of the most important offices of the state. Mohammed (pbuh)
in the strongest manner, prohibited his followers from committing any injuries
against them."
*Laa IKRAAHA fiddiin(i)
Qad tabayyanar roosydoo minal ghaiyi*
THERE SHALL be no coercion in matters of faith", the Qur'an (Chapter II The
Cow) verse 256) which has not changed one bit through any human intervention or
corruption since its revelation to the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad ibn Abdullah
(peace be upon him) 1427 years ago according to the Islamic lunar
And the renown Quranic commentator, Muhammad Asad, amplifies that according to
all Islamic jurists, without exception, forcible conversion is under all
circumstances null and void, and that any attempt at coercing a non-believer to
accept the faith of Islam is a grievous sin.
Also God (Allah) reminds Muslims who might be inclined to coercion:
*Walao syaa a rabbookaa
la aamana man fil ardh
KOOLLOOHOOM JAMII'AAN*
"Had thy Sustainer so willed, all those who live on earth would surely have
attained to faith, all of them" (Chapter X (Yunus/Jonah) verse 99).
While in the teaching of the Catholic Church:
1. Heretics may be not only excommunicated, but also justly put to death
(Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol.XIV, p 768)
2. We declare, say, define and pronounce that every being should be subject to
the Roman Pontiff (Encyclopedia, Vol XV p.126).
And:
"We believe that the rulers of a Catholic country have the right to restrict
the activity of those who would lead their people away from their allegiance to
the Catholic Church. They possess the right to prevent propaganda against the
Church. This is merely a logical conclusion from the basic tenet that the Son
of God established one religion and commanded all men to accept it under pain
of eternal damnation."
Well, well, well - talk about the freedom of and to worship. Islam is
categorical and unambiguous about coercion - it is HARAM.
Not only that. A recently obtained secret document, written in Latin in 1962 by
the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger - now of course Pope Benedict the XVIth -
set out the procedure for dealing with and concealing child sex abuse scandals
within the Catholic Church.
The document, titled in Latin "Crimen Sollicitationis" was enforced for 20
years by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger - the current Pope.
So a child that has been sexually abused by a Catholic priest must be compelled
to take an oath of secrecy, likewise the priest and any witnesses. Breaking
this oath means excommunication. Meaning you are expelled from the Catholic
Church.
How could this Pope then quote some obscure medieval emperor to denigrade Islam
and The Prophet Muhammad saw. Wallahu a'lam.#
Agooloo qaolie hatza wastaghfirullahil 'aziim.#
