Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) menegaskan, masalah monogami dan
poligami dalam Islam adalah pilihan dan kelonggaran sebagai rahmat Allah,
sehingga tak perlu dipertentangkan.
"Jangan sekali-kali dikontradiksikan. Biarlah berjalan secara natural dan
demokratis," kata Ketua Umum PBNU KH Hasyim Muzadi di Jakarta, Kamis,
menanggapi polemik soal poligami, setelah pernikahan kedua KH Abdullah
Gymnastiar (Aa Gym).
Hasyim mengatakan, bagi yang merasa telah hidup tenang dengan monogami
sebaiknya tetap memilih monogami. Sedangkan bagi orang yang karena
kondisinya lebih tenang dengan poligami, jangan dilarang berpoligami.
"Yang harus dilarang adalah kenakalan dan kelainan seksual," kata
pengasuh Pondok Pesantren Mahasiswa Al Hikam, Malang, Jawa Timur
tersebut.
Jika pemerintah berniat mengatur persoalan poligami, kata Hasyim, maka
pemerintah tidak perlu mengubah substansinya, cukup pengaturan teknis
saja.
"Jangan kita mengharamkan yang dihalalkan Allah dengan bergaya bersih dan
moralis karena itu sebuah kepalsuan, apalagi kalau niatnya kampanye,"
katanya.
Presiden Dewan Dunia Agama-Agama untuk Perdamaian (WCRP) yang baru saja
mendapat gelar doktor honoris causa dari IAIN Sunan Ampel, Surabaya, itu
juga berharap umat Islam Indonesia proporsional dalam menjalankan
agamanya.
Sementara menyangkut praktik poligami yang dilakukan Aa Gym, Hasyim
mengatakan, sebaiknya semua pihak menghormati pilihan hidup pengasuh
Pesantren Daarut Tauhid tersebut.
"Biarlah Aa Gym memilih cara hidupnya sendiri. Boleh diberitakan tapi
tidak perlu dipergunjingkan. Sedangkan pemerintah lebih baik mengurusi
minyak tanah, lumpur, dan kesedihan rakyat daripada poligami," katanya.
