Title : Senior QA Performance Engineer Location : San Francisco, CA(Locals only) Duration : 12 Months Rate : $DOE Date resource is required: 03/16/2009 Anticipated end date: 03/15/2010 Job Classification: Senior Performance QA Analyst / Engineer Position Description: Participates in the Performance and Infrastructure testing activities surrounding Web based, middleware applications, a set of web services built on varying technologies (.net, J2EE based web services). Participates in the project life cycle, from analysis to production implementation, with emphasis on test data metric analysis, performance testing, load/stress testing, and auditable documentation of plan and results. Candidate has done exclusive performance testing for period of 2 years. Deliverables : . Provide test planning based on analysis of requirements and design documents . Execute performance / volume testing to ensure all development deliverables are production ready . Write/maintain test case scripts and execute; document detailed results and summary report . Multi-task between current release, install activities, and prioritize task for next release . May coordinate with project team members Business Analyst and developers on testing requirements . Monitor and resolve testing issues . May act as lead tester on projects . Manage testing tasks concurrently on multiple projects . May coordinate the overall execution of the test plan with group and business representatives . May research production issues . May act as technical resource to other testers . Additional responsibilities as directed by either the QA Lead or Management . May author and maintain Load Runner test scripts Description: For a senior performance engineer, the experience criteria would be 2 to 5 years of solid performance testing using Mercury Load Runner*. A senior would be experienced in working with developers and business analysts to understand the scope and objectives of a test including resolution of any ambiguities surrounding the load drivers. The senior engineer would also have in depth experience at analysis of performance test cases, in depth understanding of the technology platforms being used (websphere, weblogic, IIS server, Apache, TomCat, Unix, Linux, Windows, etc), and of the topology required in orchestrating the most realistic test possible (Load Balancers, Application server nodes, data base servers, MQ managers, JDBC drivers, etc.). The senior performance engineer will be experience at defining the test cases to meet the performance test goals. He or she would be able to demonstrate superior abilities in using Performance Center to build / record scripts using various protocols available. They would be able to expertly use data correlation, parameterization, as well as setting up configurations and troubleshooting the results of a test. The SPE would be proficient at in depth application log analysis to understand application behavior and error analysis. Ability to do detailed statistical analysis in MS EXCEL is a job requirement. Understanding network topology and running of network diagnostic commands (eg. Netstats, NSLookup, TraceRt, VMStat, TOP, etc.) would be a big benefit. On the test results analysis side, the SPE would be able to collect all LR output and analyze the data to be able to validate that the performance test has yielded good results and meets SLA criteria. The SPE would be able to drill down on a performance bottleneck to isolate the offending module or method as would a developer using a probe tool. Experience with J2EE and .NET diagnostics is highly desired. Web Page breakdown analysis is also a plus. Ability to communicate technical subject matter effectively and clearly to all audiences is highly desired. Required . 5-7 years of overall QA testing experience with increasing domain of responsibility . At least 2 years experience in performance testing, with this being the primary focus . Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent education/work experience . At least 2 years experience in Performance Center / Load Runner . Working knowledge of Sitescope and Introscope monitoring products . Experience and self sufficient in using UNIX/Linux VMSTAT / IOSTAT utilities . Experience in creating test plans, cases, and scripts . Excellent oral / written communication with ability to effectively work with onsite and remote teams. . Strong independent worker and an excellent team player. . Demonstrated problem analysis and problem solving skills in a technical environment. . Strong data / metrics extraction, parsing and correlation skills using Load Runner Analysis and Excel . Knowledge of productivity application software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Visio, etc. . Ability to interface with all levels and across organizational lines. . Demonstrated success at building team relationships and partnerships across organizational lines. .
