Job Title: Software Engineer
Location: North Hollywood, CA
Duration: 3-6 months

Description:
You will work in the Technology and Engineering group and alongside the
other members of our web development and production teams. You will have
hands-on responsibilities for the development, testing, and deployment of
front and back-end software solutions centered around some of the most
popular television content today; this includes high-traffic web sites,
industry-leading broadband applications, and other new groundbreaking R & D
projects. The environment is fast-paced and the goals are demanding; but the
projects are unique, the work is rewarding and the crew likes to have fun.
Our ideal candidate is creative, energetic, deeply knowledgeable about the
latest web technologies, and has a passion for demonstrating skill and
precision in his/her work. This is a challenging job that offers the right
person an opportunity to contribute to the changing face of entertainment.
Software Engineers works closely with other software engineers, systems
engineers, front-end developers, video editors, and production staff to:
. Develop robust and reusable web applications and software solutions using
a combination of powerful, proprietary Disney Internet Group technologies
and other modern web technologies
. Evaluate software requirements and initiate solution design
. Investigate, identify, and resolve operational issues
. Advise and support front-end developers
. Understand and evaluate technical infrastructure needs
. Use and administer source control systems
. Act continuously to enhance and improve organization platforms and
processes
The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of web standards, software and
web application development best practices, object-oriented design and
programming principles, browser compatibility issues, web services, web
protocols, dynamic content retrieval and page rendering, state management,
and client/server interaction; has experience with team and project
leadership; and possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience in field
. 3-4 years of software design and implementation in Java.
. 2+ years of data-driven client-side development (Flash/Ajax).
. Proficiency in all aspects of software development including identifying
requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
. Strong written and verbal skills and ability to communicate with both
technical and non-technical audiences
. Project leadership experience
. Interest in Digital Media
. Love of Technology, Television, and ABC shows!
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED:
. Strong knowledge of Java (C++, .NET also a plus)
. Intermediate-to-strong knowledge of Flash
. Web Technologies - HTML, JavaScript, HTTP, Servlets, JSP, PHP, XML, SOAP,
AJAX
. Databases - MS SQLServer, SQL, JDBC
. Application/Web servers - Tomcat, IIS (EJB containers, Apache a plus)
. Experience working with source control systems (VSS, CVS, PVCS, etc.)
. Experience with PERL, ANT, XML
. Experience with Content Management Systems and Web Publishing
. Strong understanding of Object Oriented Programming and Design
. Web Application Best Practices
