Rate:$40/-hr Project Summary and Position Overview: The qualified individual will be part of a team developing fixed income information and analytics products. The team is responsible for enabling the core infrastructure for fixed income reference data, used by internal and external Thomson Reuters content clients worldwide. Successful applicant wil be responsible for the design, implementation, QA, documentation, production release, and ongoing support and maintenance of systems consisting of web applications, automated processes and databases. This position is part of an initiative to make major improvements to fixed income data and infrastructure. Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Candidate will be working as a senior software engineer in the Unix environment. Primary skills used will be Perl, Sybase, SQL and general Unix utilities. The successful candidate may work on any number of projects that may include: writing data entry web pages, creating new automated data feeds, working with data analysts to define new QA tools, refactoring data flow processes, performing support of existing tools, performing bugfixes, and prototyping new systems on new hardware. The position will work with staff in multiple locations including St. Paul, New York, Beijing and Bangalore. Education: Bachelors degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience. Required Skills: Demonstrated experience in all phases of the software development life cycle from requirements to design to release to ongoing maintenance of production systems. Knows how to balance foundations of design and abstraction with practical issues of maintainability, time constraints and simplicity. Strong analytic thinking skills: able to take general requirements or problem statements and work up detailed implementation plans for the team to meet them. Detail-oriented: seeks to understand the “why” behind choices. Constantly looking to improve quality and maintainability of software and data. Seeks to understand all the working parts of complex systems. Excellent communication skills: Communicates regularly, clearly and precisely, both verbally and in writing to members of the team, people related to the project, and to management (bridging business and technology). Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment. Four or more years programming in C, C++, or Perl; SQL (any variant). Four or more years experience with UNIX or Linux variant. Desired Skills: Typically requires 8-11 years combined experience in software development, management, and design. Familiarity with formal software life cycle and agile development techniques. Demonstrated experience in design of fixed income data models and structures. Knowledge of financial markets is an advantage. Optional languages: XML, HTML, Java, Python, Ruby.
