Position: *IT Solutions Architect* * Location: Washington DC* Tech Rivers is currently seeking IT Solutions Architect for a 3 month contract located in Washington, DC. The goal of this project is to optimize application performance for the organization’s portfolio of mixed-architecture applications. Specifically, the organization is modernizing many of its mainframe applications from ,'mainframe-only,' applications to mixed architecture applications. The mixed architecture applications utilize a web-based front-end (primarily Microsoft.Net and Websphere) that connects to data stored on the mainframe, primarily in DB2 databases. We are looking for a Contractor that is experienced in end-to-end architecture, development, monitoring and reporting of mixed architecture applications that communicate with the Mainframe from multiple platforms. SCOPE OF WORK The Contractor shall provide design recommendations, implementation assistance, and education related to performance and capacity of all applications that reside on or communicate with the z/ OS mainframe environment. a. The Contractor shall perform specific tasks as requested which shall include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Participate in design discussions and provide technical recommendations regarding mainframe workloads with an emphasis on online, Distributed Data Facility (DDF) and batch transactions. 2. Identify the source of any transaction delays and work with staff to implement end-to-end monitoring and reporting applications that communicate with z/OS. These monitoring tools will measure end-to-end response time and the response time components throughout the transaction,'(tm)s processing path. 3. Work with staff to perform any required z/OS customization to support performance optimization. This includes providing analysis and recommendations on the sizing of the mainframe, number of engines, number of Logical Partitions (LPARS) and other customizations to support performance optimization. 4. Provide support to staff in testing the implementation. 5. Ensure thorough training for staff in the Mainframe Systems unit to enable efficient ongoing technical support and monitoring and reporting of the end-to-end transactions. b. Mandatory Requirements. The Contractor,'(tm)s Software Architect shall possess the following qualifications, at a minimum: 1. At least fifteen years of overall IT experience. 2. Demonstrated success in previous implementations of mixed-architecture applications involving the IBM Z-series mainframe, DB2 and MicroSoft.Net and Websphere. 3. Demonstrated strong analytical skills. 4. Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
