Description: 


General Description:

Administer, design and implement programs to support the network
infrastructure. Experience with networking technologies by vendors such as
Cisco, Juniper, and F5 preferable. The network engineer must be a strong
troubleshooter and problem solver with the ability to work independently.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

.         Maintain and support the network infrastructure. This includes
working on specific hardware such as switches, routers, load balancers,
firewalls, wireless APs, VPN technologies, frame relay and other data
circuits. 

.         Stay current with network technologies and vendor products.

.         Perform network upgrades.

.         Work with other teams on projects and initiatives. Complete all
network projects by their deadlines. 

.         Understand applications and business processes in relation to the
network infrastructure.

.         Respond to production issues and see those issues through
resolution. 

.         24/7 On-call support. 

.         Capacity planning/monitoring of all network infrastructures,
devices and data circuits to keep ahead of future growth. Report capacity
needs/concerns to network and security manager. 

.         Work to ensure maximum network uptime. Work towards providing a
fully redundant high availability infrastructure at all times. 

.         Schedule all network maintenances on the Technical Operations
maintenance calendar on a weekly basis.

.         Work w/other departments/teams to assist/support them w/network
infrastructure projects, initiatives and needs. 

.         Escalate necessary issues to appropriate 3rd party vendor support
team. 

.         Update network and security manager on status of all
outages/issues. 

.         Advise network and security manager on network infrastructure,
network device or policy improvements in an effort to maintain maximum
network availability/efficiency. 

.         Monitor expiration dates of SSL Certificates. Install new SSL
certificates. 

.         Backup all network devices on a regular basis.

.         Notify EOC and all network and security team members of all
unscheduled network changes prior to implementation. 

.         Maintain operational guidelines, diagrams and documentation for
all network/security devices and infrastructures. 

.         Provide weekly status report on all network projects / tasks to
network and security manager. 

.         Mentor less exp Engineers. 

 

Required Qualifications:

.         Knowledge of network design and best practices. An understanding
of current network technologies.

.         Experience/knowledge of production data center environments and a
24/7 operation.

.         Strong written and verbal communication skills.

.         Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills. 

.         Individual must be able to work independently and closely with
other groups and team members.

.         A focus on maintaining maximum network uptime. 

.         Knowledge and experience with Cisco, Juniper and F5 technologies.


.         A strong knowledge of routing & switching.  

.         A strong knowledge of dynamic routing protocols such as EIGRP, BGP
and OSPF. 

.         A strong knowledge of load balancing. Specifically the F5 Networks
BigIP and 3DNS technologies.

.         A strong knowledge of high speed data technologies such as frame
relay, OC-3, T1, DS-3, NMLI and other private line connectivity. 

.         An understanding of Network Access Control (NAC).

.         Knowledge of firewalls and Access Control Lists (ACL) to maintain
perimeter and internal security especially with Cisco Pix Firewalls, Juniper
Netscreen Firewalls and Cisco IOS Firewalls. 

.         Knowledge of wireless technologies and networking.

.         Knowledge of network device monitoring and capacity planning.
Tools such as MRTG, CiscoWorks and Solarwinds.

.         Knowledge of VPN technologies such as LAN2LAN VPN as well as SSL
VPN. 

.         Knowledge of TCP/IP and DNS.

.         Basic knowledge of Windows and UNIX technologies. 

 

Required Education:

.         CCNA certification required. 

.         BA or equivalent work exp. 

.         3-6 yrs exp in relevant tech. 

 

Key Factors for Success:

.         Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills. 

.         Experience and knowledge of networking technologies and Enterprise
production environments.

.         Individual must be able to work independently and closely with
other groups and team members.
