LOCATION - AUSTIN, TX SKILLS ATTACHED DESCRIPTION: The Secretary of State is an agency that oversees two major functions. The Secretary serves as Chief Election Officer for Texas, assisting county election officials and ensuring the uniform application and interpretation of election laws throughout Texas. Additionally, the Office of the Secretary of State also provides a repository for official business and commercial records required to be filed with the Office. We will be adding data bases to support new production and existing back-up/dev environments. SOS is looking to hire an Oracle DBA to join the SOS team. The worker will work with the existing SOS team to maintain and support the application and systems. This is a small environment so employees are asked to wear multiple hats and work as a team on the operations side. They will be troubleshooting and maintaining databases. There are 35 plus databases in the environments, primarily Oracle 9i and 10g (one in development is 11). The candidate will primarily be dealing with one large database (1.4 terabytes, 240 tables, OLTP and back-up OLTP, data warehouse). WORKER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS (Required) A. Database Administration (Oracle required and MS SQL preferred) B. Performs data modeling and prototyping, and implements efficiency improvements C. Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system D. Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance E. To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime F. Responsible for providing trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management G. Responsible for problem escalation to Oracle Development team and third parties as appropriate H. Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades I. Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team J. Loads databases, reorganizes as necessary, and assists in monitoring database performance K. Executes the procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures L. Maintains data standards; prepares and develops database documentation, procedures, and definitions for data dictionaries M. Creates test database environment for applications section, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures N. Installation of database software and with analyzing, designing, and implementing databases O. Designing and maintaining database structures P. Establishing and implementing necessary database security controls. Q.
