The HPC Inventory and Analysis will include :

• A inventory of grid/HPC environments currently in use by the customer;
• An inventory of applications utilizing grid/HPC environments;
• The importance to and impact on Prudential’s business of each grid/HPC

• Specific requirements for each grid/HPC application, including
software/hardware requirements and applicable business and/or regulatory
requirements
• Current utilization of each application, including grid/HPC capacity
requirements at baseline, typical, and peak utilization;
• Expected or anticipated growth in the utilization of grid/HPC applications
and environments;
• Comparable industry benchmarks and recommended practices regarding the use
and implementation of grid/HPC platforms and applications within the
financial services industry (where industry comparable data is publicly
available)

The second phase of the project involves design of a proposed HPC
architecture, based on the Microsoft HPC platform, which will support
current grid/HPC applications and utilization as well as provide a basis for
future expansion and scale. The deliverable for this phase of the project
will be the HPC Architecture Report.

The HPC Architecture Report will include

• A stochastic capacity and utilization analysis incorporating baseline,
typical, peak, and temporal utilization;
• Anticipated utilization growth and attendant capacity requirements;
• Opportunities for consolidation of HPC resources among business units or
applications;
• Overall software/hardware and infrastructure requirements, specifically
the number of compute nodes, compute cores, independent and isolated
networks, and management requirements to support existing and future HPC
utilization;
• A proposed HPC infrastructure design incorporating sufficient operating
capacity and fault-tolerance to support current and anticipated HPC
utilization, based on the capacity analysis and growth expectations noted
above.
• Documented Industry Recommended practices and prescriptive guidance for
scheduling and operational management of a large, shared/cross-lob HPC
environment in a Microsoft based solution. This will be restricted to the
Microsoft specific parts of such a solution.
