This person must be willing to handle multiple tasks and push them to completion in sometimes difficult situations, and must be dedicated to mastering a complex IT environment. The candidate should provide technical leadership in supporting WebSphere infrastructure across our client’s distributed environments, and will be responsible for translating business requirements into a quantifiable system design that is adaptable, scalable, highly available, and reusable. The candidate will support the Applications Architect in selecting the infrastructure framework, sizing the application and choosing and configuring hardware. Part of the job will entail performing design reviews across the organization and helping define Service Level Agreements (SLA), estimating infrastructure cost, and scheduling process completion. The candidate may also be asked to forecast trends in business-related technology and help design an environment that will take advantage of industry innovations to further our client’s business goals. Qualifications The candidate needs a wide range of skills and interests, the most important being a willingness to accomplish tasks in an efficient and timely manner with minimal starting information, the ability and desire to dig for answers - be they process-oriented or technical, the ability to handle and keep track of many tasks at once and to manage personal time efficiently, and a sound judgment and willingness to exercise same in sometimes ambiguous situations. It is necessary to possess a broad understanding of networking and J2EE server technologies with a special emphasis in IBM Websphere administration, Solaris 10 zones and containers, Zfs administration, Unix scripting and Unix/Linux systems engineering, while those who show an understanding of any of the following will be highly advantaged: SUN and HP server platforms, IPv4, IPv6, network switches and routers, VPN’s, SAN and NAS, F5 LTM and GTM, and Oracle Database. The individual should have a very good understanding of distributed J2EE containers and the appropriate skills to design Enterprise J2EE infrastructure architecture which can be leveraged across all lines of business within the organization.
