Full time Network Engineer Travel up to 50% Location: Houston, TX - client site
POSITION PURPOSE: A full time Network Engineer in the area of Network, WAN and LAN Engineering to work with Project Managers on BP Data and Voice Projects. This position will be for billable project work. Rates and terms are set in the MSA with BP. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: "X 75% of time: o Perform Network Impact Assessments / Application Analysis o Review TIP (Technical Infrastructure Plans) o Develop Change Control documentation o Participate in Network Security Plans and reviews o Develop and perform Network Performance Reviews o Support in-problem resolution efforts o Handle IP address administration "X 25% of time: o Standards for all selected Telecom solutions. o Partner with GTS management and BP technology leadership to understand emerging technology and it¡¦s application within BP. o Participate in Capacity Planning initiatives. o Participate in address management strategy and administration. o Develop an understanding of customers short, medium and long term communications needs in order to delivery fit for purpose communications solutions. o Engage other members of Consultancy team and other departments (e.g. bid, project management, CNE, GNOC) where appropriate to provide specialist advice to meet specific customer needs o To develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the communications industry o To assist in the development BP Telecoms consultancy team through sharing specialist skills and knowledge via training and coaching in line with agreed targets o Ensuring the telecommunications (voice/data/video) services delivered to BP are fit for purpose and supplied at the lowest unit cost o Maintain (& define) Standards and technical cohesiveness for implementation and operations practice o Liaise and cooperate with PMO to maintain accurate network records OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: "X Ability to manage own workload and time effectively to maximize productivity "X Able to work efficiently as a team player and to contribute to team effectiveness "X Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously, contribute to overall process and efficiency improvement. QUALIFICATIONS * Cisco IOS Literate ¡V At least one of these Cisco Certifications Expert-level certifications Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE) Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Professional certifications Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional (CCIP) * Detailed technical understanding of current and emerging Data and / or Voice networking technologies. * Considerable background in network protocols including TCP/IP, IPX, DECNET, SNA, 7 layer OSI Model, etc * Understanding of network security (Firewalls, etc.), and intrusion detection systems. * Extensive understanding of the Telecommunications market place, products and services: Must have knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies (10Base-T, 100Base-T,Giga-Bit Ethernet, VLAN, Frame Relay, VPN, ATM, ISDN, xDSL, switching, routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP) etc.) * Problems solving and analytical abilities EDUCATION: "X Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent along with 10+ years experience with LAN, MAN and WAN architectures and technologies Location: To Be Determined Hours: 8:00am to 5:00pm Education: Company Benefits Information: Location is BP - 501 Westlake Park Blvd, Houston, TX Fully funded by BP BP has identified they will need approximately 5 of these roles over the next months.
