*Unix Service Engineer* **Location: Sunnyvale, CA
Length: 6+ months ** * * *Job responsibilities* - Administer complex Unix-based systems in a multi-tiered architecture, generally from the operating system or application level and up. - Assist with debugging of issues in both the production environment as well as the staging environment - Work closely with the Dev/QA team on new projects/requirements to ensure changes are sound and maintainable in production - Be part of Mobile SE team helping with production launches as well as code pushes - Take on-call rotations - Be able to communicate issues and resolutions to a wide audience - Ensure that issues are dealt with in a timely fashion, and work to ensure that they only happen once - Operate in a team spread out across the globe *Job requirements* - Preference for and experience working with Unix-based servers and open source software; we use FreeBSD, Linux, Apache, PHP, Nagios and MySQL (among other things), and the ideal candidate should be comfortable with all of these technologies. _ Ability to debug issues on a Unix environment in a multi-tiered architecture _ Understanding of common internet protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, etc...) and ways to troubleshoot these - Understanding of common network technologies (Akamai, VIPs, GSLB, etc...) - Understanding of redundancy and reliability and ways to achieve these - Ability to work with multiple teams simultaneously with multiple requirements - Thorough understanding of the software development life-cycle - Good documentation and communication skills - Ability to work in a fast paced environment independently and meet deadlines - Attention to details - Desire to work as a part of a team; strong interpersonal skills relating to cooperation and collaboration - Drive to take on responsibilities and do whatever it takes to get the job done (and then organize things to make your life easier) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "KNOW.IT" group.
