*Position Description*

1.    Release & Configuration Management - 80%

• Lead the efforts for the design, implementation, maintenance and support
of the Release program for MTEP
• Ensuring a high quality eCommerce platform; develop methodologies to
deliver the highest standards in Release Engineering
• Understand the complexity and challenges in a multi-geography client &
multi-geography vendor environment
• Through the technology partners, draft Release Engineering requirements
and designs; develop implementation plans; manage issues pertaining to
schedule, resources and risk pertaining to Release Management
• Proactively recommend and institute process, tool, and methodology
improvements in Release Engineering
• Track existing metrics and establish new ones to measure the quality of
client Global.com functional releases and the quality and efficiency of the
technology partner’s Release team
• Responsible for the build system, version control system & build tools and
for defining & implementing processes for milestone software release
• Implement multi-branching & merging of code bases for multi-release,
Multi-location development teams
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with peers, management, vendors,
and interested parties to meet goals

2. Vendor Management - 15%

• Work closely with the globally distributed client -Release and partner
release organizations to disseminate the product specifications and help
envision the product as perceived by the product management team

• Working with our technology partners to define, promote, and ensure
adherence to Release Engineering processes that addresses the needs of a
highly dynamic global eCommerce business; work across multiple partners to
establish uniform build and release practices

3. Metrics Management - 5%

• Evaluate existing metrics and engineer new ones to measure the quality of
client’s releases and also the performance and efficiency of the partner
build and release teams

• Proactively recommend methodology improvements based on industry best
practices and present proposed technical solutions to various teams in the
organization

*Qualifications*

1) Competencies: Skills, knowledge, & abilities (REQUIRED):

Functional Competencies:
• Proven success leading Release Engineering organizations
• Understanding of Release Engineering and software development processes
and methodologies.
• Must have worked on Internet product build and release program.
• Comprehensive understanding of software engineering practices:
configuration management, build procedures, build automation, and
deployment.
• Experience with software processes
• Working knowledge of Web and Java programming along with various
compilers, libraries, packaging, installation & licensing tools.
• Knowledge of CVS, ClearCase
• Solid experience with ANT scripts, EAR, WAR processes
• Proficiency in Unix shell scripting or equivalent scripting language
• Strong experience with installers & server based deployment on UNIX
• Understanding of Web Apps, Middleware, OS & their inter-dependencies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with internal staff and
IT vendors
• Must have experience managing distributed development based build and
release

2) Training required / preferred:

• Experience working in a multi-tenant or “Software-as-a-Service” (SaaS)
eCommerce company
• Ability to work with outsourced technology partners based in multiple,
global locations
• Experience working in a multi-country eCommerce or technology
implementation


3) Experience:

• 5 to 7 years of industry experience in release management
• Basic experience in products and solutions engineering
• Led build and release with multiple customers and release tracks on
product platforms

4) Minimum educational level:

• BSCS, MS preferred

5) Other / Physical Requirements:

• International travel
