Oracle DBA - URGENT (Preferable local) 

Location - Morgantown, WV

Duration - 12+ months 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Maintain all Oracle and SQL Server databases.  Determine requirements for
databases for purchased or in-house developed applications. Review data
models and database designs. 

Monitor databases to ensure availability and to optimize performance and
resource use. Monitor and manages database backups. Restore and/or recover
data as required. Install, maintain, and upgrade database software. May
provide 24 hour on-call support. 

Perform quality control audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper
usage of data. 

Provide assistance to applications programmers and users regarding database
access and data query development. Provide troubleshooting assistance as
required. Develop stored procedures, SQL scripts, triggers, and shell
scripts. 

Prepare and/or review activity, progress, and performance reports. 

Serve as primary system administrator and top-tier support for enterprise
systems. 

Serve as lead analyst/investigator on medium and high complexity support
issues. 

Prepare and implement changes to operational procedures for administration
of enterprise systems. 

Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

KNOWLEDGE   

Must possess knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle utilities, Backup/Recovery
(Oracle Recovery Manager), Database Creation, Oracle (9i, 10g, 11g) software
installation and upgrade, and scripting.  Knowledge of database principles,
concepts, practices, and standards.  Complete understanding and wide
application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field.
General knowledge of other related disciplines. 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

Must possess good analytical and problem solving skills, effective
communication skills (both written and oral), ability to multitask and
manage multiple projects and deadlines, knowledge and understanding of
Oracle technology, knowledge and understanding of database theory and
design, ability to comprehend and utilize new technology though self study,
ability to adjust to changing priorities, and close attention to detail.
Must be able to develop solutions to a variety of complex problems.  May
refer to established precedents and policies.  Provide technical solutions o
a wide range of difficult problems.  Solutions are imaginative, thorough,
practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.  Must possess
computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Lotus
Notes. 

 

SUPERVISION 

Position functions semi-autonomously. 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree and a minimum of three years of
experience is required.  However, a combination of experience and/or
education will be taken into consideration. 

  

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and interpret complex business and/or technical documents.
Ability to write comprehensive reports and detailed business correspondence.
Ability to work with managers or directors and communicate ambiguous
concepts.  Ability to present to groups across the organization.
