Position : Technical Writer
Location : Herndon,VA
Duration : 3Months

Technical Writer is responsible for creating, standardizing, and maintaining
documentation. This includes designing and writing training guides and user
manuals under supervision of senior technical writers.

Position Purpose
Plan, develop, write, and edit technical manuals, guides, and publications
for paper or electronic media for use by technical audience(s). Document
specifications and/or procedures for applications and other programmed
products. May interview developers, analysts, or subject matter experts to
ensure accuracy and utility of finished product.

Update publications as technical or programming changes require. May
translate technical specifications or procedures into language that can be
understood by application operations staff as well as a non-technical
audience.

Key Job Functions
Develop and publish technology technical support solutions, including,
process maps, troubleshooting guides, for larger or more complex systems and
applications.

Research appropriate sources in order to create, update, and review process
documentation for an assigned business unit or corporate office.

Confer with operations team, developers, and technical leads in order to
produce requirements and design documentation for larger or more complex
applications or systems.

May analyze IT/IS application, actual business, or operational sequence to
spec out steps that can be documented.

Job Function Descripton : Work is generally high in scope and complexity.
Work may be performed without direction. Typically participates in
determining objectives of and approaches to assignments.

Education Required Preferred
Level Bachelor Degree or Equivalent Master or Other Advanced Degree
Area of Study Communications, English or IT/IS Certifications

Minimum Experience:
4-6 years of related experience
Specialized Knowledge & Skills

- Work requires a BA/BS in Journalism, English, Technical Communications,
Computer Science or related field.
- Work requires a minimum of three years writing experience, preferably in a
technical field with an emphasis on technical documentation. Prefer that one
of the three years of experience be in information systems or information
technology
• Must have knowledge and understanding of UNIX, XML and Java
• Must understand and perform content management functions such as document
organization using SharePoint and other central stores for documentation
• Can communicate written documentation to respective audience, train, and
maintain with organizational changes
