The company is writing new features to their web applications, so this person would be involved in analysis, design, coding, and testing these features. b.. They are also re-writing reports from SQL Server 2005 to 2008, and writing new reports in 2008. The skills are ASP.NET, C#, web services, and SQL Server. c.. They MUST have SSRS and SSIS skills, and be very proficient with them. If they only know SQL 2005, they should at least know some of the differences between 2005 and 2008. d.. They have to be excellent communicators. e.. Most importantly, they need to be able to work independently. f.. If they are given a task, they should be able ot complete it without asking for help in problem solving. g.. They need to be able to be given a problem and find a solution, then code it. h.. This is not a junior level position (although a sharp junior level programmer might be able to do it). i.. We should see 4-5 years MINIMUM, and it has to be good experience working with the end client (not "software factory" kind of experience). j.. And finally, if they are creative and can come up with feature ideas that the users didn't think of, then they will get extended easily. k.. They need to have some creative business thinking to stick around. l.. I have found that people with Agile experience (daily meetings, user stories, close interaction between BAs, developers, QA, and the customer) have this sort of mindset.
