We have urgent need Data Center Engineer. Data Center Engineer Duration: 6 Month Location: Decatur OR Elk Grove Village ( both are in Illinois) Description: Under supervision and direction of the Global Hosting Manager; install OS, rack and cable activities in a co-located Data Center environment. Ability to work with customers over the phone in order to trouble shoot specific operating systems, cabling and Network issues within the various Data Center environments. This person must have at least seven years experience in installation and maintenance of Data Center systems, as well as troubleshooting experience. His/her background must include the installation and configuration of Windows operating systems, VMware, Data Storage systems, Ethernet (IEEE Standard 802.3) Local Area Networks (LAN), Enterprise Network topology, and fiber optic systems. Knowledge of IP sub-netting and basic networking is also required. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: . Installation and configuration of Windows operating systems and VMware. . Install or relocate equipment in racks. Modify racks and equipment rails as required, per floor plan and schematic drawings. . Using floor plans and schematic drawings, determine the length of data cables to be manufactured and installed. . Organize, lace, and terminate Ethernet and fiber cables at determined locations through the use of color coding, proper methodology, training and the use of necessary tools. . Test newly installed or relocated cables in accordance with established procedures. . Under direction of Global Hosting Manager, troubleshoot operating systems, cable and network issues. . Ensure quality of all project deliveries within the Data Center. . Support incident remediation efforts under the supervision of Global Hosting Manager or support personnel during Early Life Support. . Job description: The position holder is responsible for the daily ongoing support of computer hardware and Microsoft Office applications software on the Tate & Lyle networks. This includes personal computers, laptops, thin clients, printers, scanners, and handheld devices. Daily tasks include the compliance to Incident, Problem and Change Management processes, initial equipment set-up and installation, software and hardware troubleshooting, equipment inventory management, and user interfacing. Main Accountabilities: . Support role: Support the business on all client facing aspects of infrastructure including acquisition, configuration installation and/or relocations of desktops, laptops, printers, handhelds, security, LAN connectivity, etc. . Design/Development Role: Participate in the development of client standards and technical configurations. . Resource role: Perform in a resource role on large project tasks as assigned. . Project role: Undertake a lead role in small projects as assigned. . Undertake functional responsibility for the development and future direction of business technologies as assigned. . Provide 2nd line support role for incidents and service requests received from the Service Desk. . Be available (on call) for off hours incidents / issues that might arise in the Infrastructure Operations area which are deemed critical to business integrity. . Dimensions: . Scope includes all Tate & Lyle locations and all users with immediate emphasis on North and South American sites. . Travel as necessary to support these and other locations. Skills and Knowledge Required: . Thorough understanding of computer hardware and operating systems, specifically HP desktops, laptops, printers and current Microsoft operating systems. . Thorough understanding of thin client technology with emphasis on Citrix Metaframe. . General understanding of local area networks, switches, routers, and infrastructure cabling. . Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio and Outlook. . Knowledge of organizational structure and business objectives for T&L business units . Proactive in problem solving and ability to see the "bigger picture". . Thorough understanding of all T&L standard infrastructure equipment. . Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. . Good interpersonal communications skills. . Good organizational and record keeping skills. . Good analytical skills with an eye for detail. . Basic understanding of server hardware, configuration, and trouble shooting. . Basic understanding of print servers and their operation. .
