If we want to have a more explicit list in the search history, it would be a better idea to change the qualifiers/aliases used in the Advanced Search and the masthead search. That way, the search history (and the search result pages) would be more user-friendly, but we wouldn't be re-writing anything. This also means advanced users would have their queries stored in the search history unaltered. As an advanced user, it would make me happy not to have my searches mangled after the fact.
