I did a lot of testing, and my conclusions were as follows: 1. YAML is much faster than XML. 2. XML::Simple with $ENV{'XML_SIMPLE_PREFERRED_PARSER'} == 'XML::SAX::ExpatXS' is probably the best option for parsing the XML.
