I sat with Matthias at Kohacon2024 hackfest and we chatted about it, and tested it side by side. I found a little issue with the provided XSLT for authority oai_dc to marc21, but I've provided a patch for that. I haven't verified the UNIMARC XSLTs, but technically you can provide any XSLT you like, so each instance can do any XSLT they like. I've verified that the OAI harvest mechanism works as intended, and it's all looking good to me. There are probably some additional tweaks I'd like to make in the long-term, but those can be done in the future as follow-ups, if they're really required. The perfect is the enemy of the good, and I think that this is a good change for us to make. Let's get this in, and then we can always polish more as we go.
