I could see an action button next to the item on the check in screen that would
allow you to set it to any preconfigured display locations.  Once it circulates
it clears that status and defaults to available/recently returned on the next
check in.  And then it could be put on display if desired.

Maybe another screen (Put on display), where you set the display location and
then scan the item(s) that are going there.  Again, those would clear when they
circulate.
