The staff permission "debug" was introduced in bug 39142 and currently named
“Display the debug interface” which is inconsistent with the naming pattern
used for most Koha permissions, such as “Create and modify Interlibrary loans
requests”, “Allow access to the reports module” “Manage funds”, “Edit
invoices”, or “Add manual invoices to a patron account”.
The phrase “Display the debug interface” can be interpreted as allowing a user
to make the interface visible to others, rather than granting them permission
to use the debug interface themselves. This wording may confuse users assigning
permissions.
To improve clarity and consistency, I propose renaming the permission to
something like:
“Allow to use debug interface”
(or another phrasing aligned with Koha’s existing permission style)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open the staff interface.
2. Find any patron or go to your on account -> Click More -> Set permissions.
3. Locate the permission called "debug".
4. Observe that the permission label reads “Display the debug interface”.
Expected behavior:
Permission wording should clearly indicate that the user is allowed to access
and use the debug interface, following the same style as other permissions.
Actual behavior:
The current wording suggests the user can *display* the interface, which may be
misinterpreted.
Additional notes:
This is a wording/UX issue only; the underlying permission functionality works
as expected.
