This cron is not scheduled by default as it's currently not needed if you don't
also run reports from cron/command line. Maybe we should add it to the
defaults?
The table could get really really big pretty fast which is a bit of a risk.

I am not sure how it helps the load to run as a background job - it's still the
same query. Can someone explain what difference it actually makes on the server
side or what the big advantage here is?
