And re-reading the comments... I see now that Tomas originally planned to use the configurations table for smtp_servers! I feel like such a fool in retrospect... it really would've been very useful in the past, and I think it could still be very useful now! In fact, it would be extremely useful with "Bug 42870 - Make email transports pluggable" because we could use Javascript to interact with the configurations API to store plugin-specific information for the email transports. -- I'll look at QAing this as soon as I can... because I truly do believe now that it has immense utility. With any of my previous concerns... the perfect is the enemy of the good.
