The field must be returned with or without the embed, as it is when the header is not sent. They highlight the problem reported in comment #13: when items are embedded, the record goes through the ViewPolicy filter and the hidden fields are removed. Test plan: 1. Apply this patch 2. Run: $ ktd --shell k$ prove t/db_dependent/api/v1/biblios.t => FAIL: Tests fail! The field hidden in the staff interface is missing in all the formats 3.
