I'll code a facet query in our current search for a set of expected facets, as we use today, plus pubdate, or others added with followup patches. I'll query for all in one go. If that fails, then might try individual queries as a fallback. Maybe even keep the current code as a fallback. If sysadmin updates the configs, then we get the enhanced behavior. We can NYTprof and see impact. If a discernable impact, we could add syspref "ZebraNativeFaceting" on/off.
