Hi Paul - Data::Currency seems to solve the problems you outline. If it seems to be the best available option, I'd vote to use it instead of writing and maintaining our own module. Have you looked around to see how much work this would be to use all over the application? I'm wondering what your timeframe or schedule might be like.
