I'm inclined to go ahead and push the patch (along with a followup to fix an IE compatibility issue), with the notion that you, Stephen, and Nicolas will hash out UI changes. While I agree that the search results page should have no more clutter than required, I'm not sure about exiling batch operations to the the carts and list interface. Doing that adds a navigation step and makes it less likely that a user will figure that the batch operation can be done in the first place. In the case of tagging, it's my impression that library catalogs need all the UI support they can get to make it easy to tag books, as otherwise patrons don't tend to do it at all.
