I'm planning on writing up a blog post explaining relevancy ranking in Koha (I finally found the source code, so it's a matter of translating it into Human), but I'm not sure I'll get to it before January. If anyone else wants to take a crack at it, be my guest. The _build_weighted_query subroutine starts on C4/Search.pm line 757 in current master.
