Hi, I think you need to activate ICU indexing for your search to work correctly.
There was a similar question on Bugzilla recently: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8065 Not sure I understand your problem correctly. The highlighting only looks at what is visible on the page and highlights your search terms.
