Hi Marty, it's totally possible and even not hard to do using jQuery, but there is a problem with this idea you and the librarians using the search should be aware of:
Bug 7607 - Advanced search: Index and search term don't match when leaving fields empty bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=7607 I asked several people to take a look at it and it's not an easy fix. What would fix this and other problems is the search rewrite that still needs some funding (http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/C_&_P_Search_Rewrite_RFC).
