Hi How did you import your excel-data into Koha in the first time? I'm not really familiar with the process but I thought you had to convert your data into MARC and one of the tools to do that is MarcEdit.
I am using Koha 3.12.6 and there you go to Start->Tools->MARC export There is also a tool called "Batch item modification". Maybe that one could help you. I strongly recommend to upgrade your Koha instance to 3.12. It's worth and 3.8 is really outdated.
