Hi Alex,
You are logging in to the staff client, not to the OPAC? Having logged in, you should see a menu in two columns: Patrons is the second option in the left hand column, Administration is the fourth option in the right hand column. Is that what you are seeing?

Just to answer this because I'm about to leave: you can log in to the
admin interface using the mysql username and password. This should allow
you to create and modify real users.

Don't use this account for doing anything other than administration
though, it'll probably cause problems.
