Hello, If you are more confident with Ubuntu, stick with it. You can fix the MySQL 5.7 issues with 2 ways: remove the strict mode or use MariaDB instead. See the wiki page: https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_on_ubuntu_-_packages#Ubuntu_16.04_and_MySQL_5.7
